Can a School Survive without a Library (or a Librarian)?

Can a school (such as Calaveras High School) survive without a library (or a librarian)?

A recent article by Alicia Castro of the Calaveras Enterprise: "Librarian Layoffs Could Have Devastating Impact on Schools" (Dec. 16, 2014) definitely raises the question.

Santa, however, (in the cartoon editorial) seems to be heavily in favor of keeping libraries open!

There appears to be a special POWER in having a library card! Power in books! Power in Reading! Power in a School or Community Library!

I'm in full agreement with Santa--Save the Libraries (where else can you acquire the skills and ability to travel through time and space?) ... but at a library!
