Ms. Kelly Smith Running for Calaveras Unified School Board Trustee (Area 2)

As of July 24th 2014, incumbent Evan Garamendi, Calaveras Unified Trustee, has a challenger for the Area 2 seat.

Ms. Kelly Smith has officially filed papers in order to run for
CUSD School Board Trustee (Area 2)

We welcome you to the arena, Ms. Smith.
We look forward to getting to know you better in the near future!
Ms. Smith’s candidate statement of qualifications is presented below:

Education and Qualifications:

I am a graduate of Calaveras High School. I was raised in Mokelumne Hill and currently reside in Valley Springs. My parents were both teachers and I am a 4th generation educator. Subsequent to graduation from Calaveras High I earned a BA in Liberal Studies and an Elementary Teaching Credential from Cal State East Bay and a Law Degree from Northern California School of Law.

I taught elementary school in the California Public School system for ten years. I have worked in the legal arena for approximately seven years, the Health Insurance companies for four years, and in an environmental laboratory for eight years. I have and currently own several businesses, including two business consulting firms. My current business consulting firm offers bookkeeping services and organizational efficiency services, among others.

I am the mother of a disabled son, so I am well aware of the special education system.

Calaveras Unified was a great basis for my success in life. I participated in band and sports and attended college on a music scholarship. I would love to help our kids to have the same sound educational foundation I was afforded many years ago. I appreciate your vote.
